We’ve been very lucky people here today at, so lucky in fact we’ve been able to interview the fantastic jewellery designer Sarah, from Pasara of Redcastle.

Taking her inspiration from the beautiful Irish landscape, and particularly from Donegal her county of residence, Sarah creates elegant and exquisite pieces.

sarah-pasaraTell us a little about yourself, where did it all begin?

I worked for a family run jeweller/designer in Norfolk for 14 years. I was fascinated to see a design sketch transformed into a beautiful piece of jewellery.

When did you decide that you wanted to become a jewellery designer?

On moving to Ireland, I was inspired by the beauty of the landscape and the coastline of Inishowen. The curves of Kinnegoe Bay gave me the inspiration to design our first collection.

Who, or what inspires you?

The coastline and country landscape inspires me, also beautiful fabric, things that have a flow to them.

How long does it generally take from conception to completion, to create an item?

From sketch pad to completion usually takes 2-3 months.

What do you love most about your work?

I love the freedom of design and witnessing my ideas transformed into amazing pieces of jewellery.

If you were to choose a item from your collection to wear yourself, what would it be?

Our new bar fronted Torc. It is so versatile and easy to wear. I have worn it with outfits ranging from jeans and t shirt through to evening dress, never without a compliment!

Silver Bar Fronted Torc

What is your favourite design that you have created?

The curved “kinnegoe” torc, as this is where it all began.

Who do you admire the most in the design world?

For jewellery it would be Paul Spurgeon and Christopher Wharton. For fashion I have recently discovered Heidi Higgins.

What tips would you give others who want to make it as a designer?

Set the bar high with quality and attention to detail. Stay true to your inspiration, if you are putting your name to it then you have to love it.

What is your ultimate goal? Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

To see Pasara grow into a globally recognised quality brand, expanding our jewellery range, incorporating clothing and accessories into our portfoio. We would aspire to be in a position to help up and coming designers and entrepreneurs succeed.

I have Sarah’s pendant & earrings & love them. I wear them all the time & get compliments all the time. I don’t think any of my other jewellery gets the same comments 🙂
