It’s so refreshing to meet a fashion blogger like Erin Grant.  She’s quirky, creative and a really nice person too!  Erin is an expressive individual and as well as writing about fashion, her other passions include art and photography –  a perfect combination! A fashion blogger with heart, Erin is a woman to watch out for now and in the future, making the fashion industry, and the world, a better place!

Tell us a little about yourself, your age, where you are based, your style!

I’m 21, currently living in Galway studying at NUIG, My style is varied. I like to clash colours, Wear grunge styled clothing, unusual quirky jewellery and I’m a big fan of thrift shops, vintage stores and Topshop. I’m always up for a cuppa’, a terrible but enthusiastic dancer, I do yoga regularly and I want to make a dress for Lady Gaga…

How long have you been blogging?

I’ve only been blogging about a year properly.

What got you started in the world of online blogging?

I have a lot of opinions and I really enjoy keeping up to date with style. I’ve always been a bit of a chatter box so it was a good way to get out there and meet new people. I have been writing in secret for years, ever since I can remember I have been planning, sketching etc – I just developed the confidence to go public with it and ‘My Paper Mache Mind’ was born! At the heart of it all, I wanted to connect with people, share views and organise a way to give recognition to fellow artists through interview and collaborations.

What is your blog about?

I blog about everything from fashion, beauty, art, photography and music! It’s a place for expression but I also adore interviewing other creative people.

Who is your favourite fashion designer?

Alexander McQueen, is without a doubt, my all time favourite designer. I’ve incorporated the house of McQueen into numerous projects and I was in awe when I visited the New York store in March. It was a dream come true. The macabre style is stunning but beautiful. The collections just mesmerise me.

Bags or shoes?

Bags. I really like bags, I’m obsessed with Marc Jacobs bags they are fabulous, then the classic Louis Vuitton. Some day I want to own at least one of those! I’m basic with my shoes; Converse, Doc Martens, or My Topshop Platforms if I want to dress it up a bit.

What do you think of plastic surgery?

I would never get it, however, I’m a firm believer in people living their life as they want. I just worry about people doing it for the complete wrong reasons. Sometimes it is necessary, but purely for cosmetic purposes it can be a debatable issue.

What do you think of size 0 models?

The fashion industry is cut throat. If you want to succeed in high fashion you have to be a particular size, I don’t think this is fair, but it is the reality of the business. It upsets me that young girls criticise their bodies and image based on magazines, because you can’t airbrush yourself when you look in the mirror. Most photographs have been seriously edited and I feel sorry for young men and women who feel like they are not good enough due to these false images.

What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?

This is a very, hard question. I’ll be honest it is probably my ‘DASH’ brand tshirt from New York, just because I had to travel that far to get it. Then it is my vintage 80’s jacket from Armstrongs in Edinburgh.

What could not leave the house without?

I’m not one for needing things with me all the time but, I really can’t leave without my phone.

What is your favourite beauty item?

My Body Shop Products, The skin creams are to die for! The foundation is perfectly pale on my skin and it’s a step in the right direction in helping the planet and the animals, what is not to love? Then It is Nivea creams, Almost all my beauty regime products are Nivea – Perfume, It is Lady Gaga ‘Fame’ Oh and my MAC lipsticks!

What is your fashion pet peeve?

Denim on Denim. Need I say any more? Ok I will – Leggings worn as pants. It never works, 95% of them are see through people!

Who’s style do you admire most?

For the outlandish expression? David Bowie. The confidence? Gwen Stefani. The beauty? Debbie Harry.

At school, would you have described your dress sense?

I was considered an ’emo’ but I had a hippie vibe going too. I never really meant to be recognisable as that, it just happens that way in school. I was confident and happy anyway so it never really bothered me but it can be a bit of a challenge when you know you look different!

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

I would adore to be working somewhere new and exciting, preferably in the fashion/art industry. I really enjoy anything creative and would be thrilled with a very expressive job. I would like to be writing articles and having the time of my life! I’m a very positive thinker so I believe anything you really want, you can achieve!

What do you love most about blogging?

The feedback. I get more emails than comments on my blog, but sometimes I get really heartfelt messages, or positive replies about my more ‘motivational or honest’ posts. It’s really good to know you’re helping people or making them laugh. I also enjoy meeting new people.

What is your biggest blogging achievement so far?

I have a couple I am proud of in the last year, I have been hired by websites and my photography is being used on American band Girl in a Coma’s tour shirts, which is a perfect mix between fashion and photography!

What do you think about ethical fashion? Do you think consumers and/or businesses have a responsibility to ensure clothing is made by / with ethical methods?

Yes. I think both need to be ethically aware. It’s a very unusual issue in my opinion because, I myself have studied garment ethics and I would always look up a companies terms if I was certain I would be buying from them on a regular basis – but I know that in the current climate, people will turn to the brands that can give them fashion trends at a cheaper price, which in turn can have consequences on the people making the clothing. It’s a vicious cycle and it’s one I would be interested in working on changing in the future.

What would you say to any would be bloggers out there?

Do it. The worst thing that will happen is you’ll decide it is not for you, but it’s worth the risk. I’d also encourage anyone interested in writing to research everything you write about, always maintain a professional image of yourself and try to do something new! There is only one you, so show that!

And finally, what will you be writing about on Clothes.ie?

I’ll bring variety to the table 😉 I like to write about trends I like and loathe, Vintage, Ethical issues, beauty and all things style orientated!

Look out for Erin’s articles on our website, and also check out her fantastic blog at My Paper Mache Mind.
